Hemolysis, El e vated Liver En zymes, and Low Platelet Count (HELLP) Syn drome with Acute Cor ti cal Blind ness

The co in ci dence of hemolysis, el e vated liver en zymes, and low plate - let count (HELLP) syn drome and cor ti cal blind ness is an un com mon but very dra matic event. We de scribe a case of HELLP syn drome com - pli cat ing with acute cor ti cal blind ness be fore de liv ery. A 27 year-old woman, gravida 1, para 0, with nor mal med i cal his tory, was re ferred to our emer gency de part ment at the 33th week of ges ta tion due to head - ache, vom it ing, and blurred vi sion. The ophthalmologic ex am i na tion showed in tact pupillary light re flexes and nor mal ophthalmoscopic find ings, but no light per cep tion in ei ther eye. Brain com puted to mog - ra phy showed nor mal find ings. HELLP syn drome and preeclampsia was di ag nosed based on the find ings of hy per ten sion and proteinuria as well as lab o ra tory data.
