Analysis of low energy consumption wireless sensor with BLE

BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) is a promising technology for the wireless sensing. In order to reduce the energy consumption of the wireless sensor with continuous data collecting, a strategy of data transmission for BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) is proposed in this paper. The method aims to cut down the transmission average current by changing the size of sensor data packet (packaged with different numbers of data unit) in the same sampling frequency of sensors. Two commonly-used Bluetooth 4.0 chips, CC2541 and nRF51822 were compared in this experiment and the result shows that the average current of data transmission reduced obviously by the packaging strategy. This method makes the wireless wearable devices based on BLE become more suitable for the continuous data collection system.
