Actuator Fault Diagnosis Approach for Doubly Fed Induction Generator of Wind Turbine

In this paper, an Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) based method is developed to diagnose actuator faults of the Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG), widely used in wind power generation systems. Firstly, a time varying and nonlinear state space model of the generator dynamics is used in the design of the proposed diagnosis method. This approach has the advantage to deal with the diagnosis of both single and multiple and simultaneous actuator faults. for the second case, a bank of Unscented Kalman Filters is designed according to the Dedicated Observer Scheme (DOS). Computer simulations have been conducted in Matlab/Simulink software and the proposed method is shown to be effective in detecting and isolating actuator faults.
