We study signal design for transmitter diversity wireless communication over Rayleigh fading channels using pilot symbol assisted modulation (PSAM). As an alternative to the commonly used intentional frequency offset method, which requires an interleaver, we show that by using appropriately designed pilot symbol sequences and coded modulation schemes, similar performance can be obtained without an interleaver.
