Contract miner is a major producer

Morrison-Knudsen Co., Inc. is a major construction company and a major coal producer. It is now broadening its engineering capabilities, moving into other coal areas, and is aiming to shift into midwestern and eastern USA coalfields, as well as expanding into foreign markets. The major subsidiaries of the company are given, illustrating its diversity. The organization of Morrison-Knudsen's Mining Group is discussed. Three major computer systems for geologic modelling, mine planning and operation monitoring are outlined, and, the operation of some of its mines, including brown coal mines in Texas, is detailed.
