The refocusing behaviour of a focused femtosecond laser pulse in fused silica

Refocusing behaviour was observed when a single femtosecond laser pulse was focused into fused silica. A theoretical model based on the nonlinear Schrodinger equation is given, from which a semianalytical solution is obtained and using which the experimental results are interpreted qualitatively. A clear physical insight into the formation of refocusing behaviour and propagation in ionizing media is provided.
