Haptic device demo using temperature feedback

Human senses are one of main functions of the human body, as they provide feedback from the environment that help on performing everyday activities. However, with age the sensing ability tends to decrease, as well as, the capacity to process in real-time the perceived information. This demo presents an on-going work on the development of a novel haptic device designed to be used by elders to stimuli and quantify the nervous system responsiveness through a serious game. The game uses a temperature controlled element, where elders place one hand, and a basic task used to perceived information. As a function of the felt temperature, the elder has to make a decision, by classifying an objet according with his own temperature perception, as hot, or cold. Thus this game provides a simple way elders' can use to generate a temperature stimulus to their brains and training as well, the motion control to place the object in the right place.
