Defining Security Threats to Information-Processing Applications

Abstract Security issues were not of major concern in the earliest days of computing. IS security began to be a serious issue about 35 years ago. Addressing this issue required, and still requires, a recognition of the inherent vulnerabilities in the conventional concepts of information-processing application design and maintenance. All computing has been based thus far on the so-called Von Neuman Architecture (as was pointed out in last month's issue of EDPACS).
