Body Fluid Replacement in the Surgical Patient.

This book is a compilation of papers presented at an International Symposium held in 1969, sponsored by the departments of surgery and anesthesiology of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, in association with the Division of Medical Sciences, National Research Council. The editors were chairmen of the symposium. The book is divided into four parts, each consisting of from 9 to 11 papers; the contributors are, therefore, numerous. The participants to the symposium, 95 experts in their fields, were representatives of outstanding medical schools and medical centers from all over the United States as well as Sweden, France, and Switzerland. The four parts of the book cover in considerable detail blood, colloid, water, and electrolyte replacement and parenteral alimentation. No particular format is followed in the specific chapters since they are made up of individual papers presented. References are adequate and chapters are well supported by numerous
