Wideband low RCS antenna based on absorbing surface and microstrip resonators

In this paper, a wideband low radar cross section (RCS) antenna with both in-band and out-of-band RCS reduction is presented. A slot-coupled patch antenna acts as the reference antenna, and the radiation patch is surrounded by microstrip resonators, which is to reduce the in-band RCS of the proposed antenna. The absorbing surface is supported on top of the antenna with four nylon columns to obtain the out-of-band RCS reduction. The results show that a significant RCS reduction has been accomplished in the frequency ranges of 3.215GHz. Compared with the reference antenna, the maximum RCS reduction is 10.0dB and 16.6dB for the in-band and out-of-band respectively while preserving the desired radiation characteristics.
