Clinical studies on diagnosis and management of prostatic adenocarcinoma in dogs

The present study was done on 9 clinical cases of dogs suffering from prostatic adenocarcinoma. Objective and subjective assessments of the volume of the prostate was done using radiography and ultrasonography. Ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration biopsy using free hand technique was found simple, economical and efficient technique for obtaining good quality prostatic tissue sample for cytological diagnosis of prostatic adenocarcinoma in dogs. Treatment of prostatic adenocarcinoma with either dutasteride or bilateral orchiectomy helped in resolving of the clinical signs, stabilization of the patient and reduction in ultrasonographically measured prostatic volume in dogs.
