A comparison of software and hardware monitors

Tests were performed to compare the accuracy of two computer system monitors. Specifically, results from a hardware monitor were compared with results from a software monitor. Some of the subreports produced by the software monitor were quite accurate; other subreports were not quite so accurate, but they were consistent from run to run. In view of these test results, it appears that the software monitor can be used to measure the effects of changes made in a system tuning project.
