Thermodynamics of Binary Liquid Iron-Titanium Alloys by Mass Spectrometry

The activilies and fJartial molar heats oj solution have been determined in the irontitanium system at j 600°C by the exfJerimelltal technique oj the K nudsen cellmass spectrometer combination. The ion current ratio J01' the alloy components was measured Jor the system across the whole range oj composition, and thermodynamic values were calculated by a modified GibbsD uhem equation. A small amount oj thorium was added to the meltJor the pwpose oj lowering the oxygen partial pressure in the cetl. The activities ill alloys showed the negative deviationJrom ideal behaviour. The results can be closely represe/lted by the Jollowing equations.
