Optimization of Satellite Rearrangement against Satellite Failure in LEO System

[Abstract] A LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellite system is expected as a next generation global multimedia communication system. A LEO system usually consists of many satellites and thus it is important to design a method to cope with a satellite failure. Since satellites are in general rather expensive, some method without preparing spare satellites is required against such a failure. In this paper, we propose a designing method for rearranging satellites and related ISLs (Inter-Satellite Links) against a satellite failure of a LEO system. The derived rearrangement of satellites provides a rather low cost method to cope with a satellite failure of LEO systems. The processes and their effectiveness of the proposed method are demonstrated by the results of its application to a LEO system.
