Data, information and knowledge

Abstract The relationship between data, knowledge, and wisdom is explained in this article. Codifying knowledge will help to disseminate good practice and provide a sound basis for developing clinical decision-support systems. Stimulated by increasing access to the Internet, there is a tension between traditional sources of knowledge (e.g. books, individuals recognized as experts), and sources facilitated by ready access to the Internet (e.g. wikis, blogs and other social networking resources).
