Distribution and seasonal flight of Theresimima ampellophaga (Bayle-barelle, 1808) in Greece estimated by pheromone traps

Pheromone traps, Pherocon 1C, baited with pheromone caps for Theresimima ampellophaga were used to detect this species at 16 sites in Greece during 2001-2004. Catches of T. ampellophaga were recorded only at 4 of the 16 sites investigated - two of them in Central Greece (Karditsa) and two on the islands of Lefkada and Rhodos. In Central Greece and Lefkada, the flight period began between the end of May and the middle of June and lasted until the beginning of July. In Rhodos, two well expressed peaks of flight periods indicated that two generations were observed. The flight period of the first generation was in June and the second began at the end of July and lasted until the end of August. This is the first study documenting the existence of two discrete generations of the insect on an island in South Greece.
