Method for uplink bandwidth request and allocation in a wireless communication system

A method for requesting and allocating uplink resources in a wireless communication system is provided to prevent a waste of uplink resources by not allocating the uplink resources required for requesting uplink resource allocation in case an uplink resource allocation request to be transmitted at a polling time based on a polling cycle doesn't exist. A mobile station confirms whether a BR(Bandwidth Request) for each service is generated(310). The mobile station judges whether the number of generated BRs is identical to the number of estimated BRs(312). In case the number of generated BRs is not identical to the number of estimated BRs, the mobile station transmits BR information to a base station(318). The mobile station receives an uplink MAP from the base station(320). The mobile station transmits uplink data to the base station through the uplink resources allocated by the uplink MAP. Also, the mobile station transmits a BR corresponding to each service, which requires the allocation of uplink resources, through the uplink resources allocated by the uplink MAP(322).
