MODELING AND DYNAMIC SIMULATION OF VARIABLE SPEED WIND TURBINE

An overall dynamic model for variable speed wind turbines (VSWT), including the wind-turbine, doubly-fed generator and electrical control of the generator, is established. To research the characteristics of VWST and constant speed wind turbine (CSWT) while they are interconnected with power network a digital simulation tool is constructed on the basis of above mentioned dynamic model by MATLAB. Taking two phenomena, i.e., the irregular disturbance and the step change of the wind speed, for examples, the response characteristics of the corresponding physical quantities of the VSWT and CSWT with same parameters are simulated and compared. The simulation results show that the established model is correct and VSWT possesses good dynamic characteristics.
