Automated Audio-visual Dialogs over Internet to Assist Dependant People

With today’s advancements in medical treatments and care fields, an increasing number of people nee d help or assistance at home. Concerned categories are mostly elderly, isolated or disabled persons even though persons wi th mild cognitive impairment are also considered. One of th e main issues these categories are facing is the lack of c onstant communication to help maintaining some kind of soci al link, with families, friends and eventually caregivers. Moreover, the fact that current hardware accessories and technolo gies are not always suited to allow for such functionalities, in a generic situation, tend to increase that particular gap. Many studies suggest the use of Automatic Speech Recognition (AS R) to have a global control over devices and communicatio n means. The resulting architecture allows for a pseudo butl er to be put in place, serving as the main entry point to manage daily common communication tasks as well as giving access to different web services via a voice controlled envir onment. Once put in application, it could stand as a complete an d integrated solution for remote communication and monitoring of the designated population target. Keywords-ASR; Voice over IP (VoIP).
