ROBUST FAULT DETECTION

Abstract Interval type parametric uncertainty has received little attention in the design procedures developed for robust detection filters. This paper focuses on increasing the robustness of a classically designed detection filter — one designed for uni-directionality of the output error residual — by monitoring the evolution of the time-frequency distribution of the output error residual, and thereby exploiting differences in the transmission to the output error residual from the fault event and the system inputs. The design of tight detection thresholds based explicitly on engineering knowledge of parametric uncertainty in a system is discussed.
