Behaviour of composite castellated beams

The effect of composite action on the behaviour of composite castellated beams is described by comparison with that of non-composite beams. It is demonstrated that enhancement of both flexural and shearing resistances can be expected, but that the improved shearing resistance can only be realised if certain conditions are met. The role of partial shear connection is stressed, and the need for further information concerning the prediction of web buckling in composite castellated beams is identified.
