Midterm stability analysis of a multimachine system by the frequency response method

Abstract The eigenvalue method, Routh—Hurwitz method and other conventional methods used for steady-state stability analysis are not suited for a multimachine system consisting of several hundred machines with automatic voltage regulators and speed governors. This paper shows that the frequency response method is very useful for such a large-scale system. The critical stability condition obtained by the proposed method is compared with that obtained by conventional simulation and it is shown that the proposed method is sufficiently accurate and efficient. This algorithm is applicable to a decomposing system.
