Microreactor with Integrated Static Mixer and Analysis System

A modularly constructed, continuous flow microreactor has been developed containing a mixer unit, reaction unit and an analysis system. Examples of these different units are demonstrated. The mixer unit has been realized by micromachining with an excimer laser, demonstrating the possibility of shaping materials laterally as well as into the depth of the material. The reaction unit demonstrates the ability to control the reaction parameters in microchannels e.g. by adjusting the flow velocity. An optical detection system allows the use of several detection techniques such as UV-absorption and fluorescence measurements. These units have been realized by combining deep X-ray lithography or excimer laser structuring with electroforming and plastic molding. The embossing technique used allows the low cost replication of the structures in mass production.
