Application of Decentralized Control Theory in Power System Control

Abstract The decentralized control of a class of servomechanism problems is considered in this paper. For models with direct feedthrough, we obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions which permit asymptotic tracking using decentralized feedback in the face of external disturbances. Also, we give a systematic procedure for designing communication schemes among controllers when the performance of the decentralized control system is not satisfactory. We illustrate the use of the above results in the power system control area by considering a 2-area load frequency control (LFC) problem.
