The technique in three-dimensional CT reconstruction and the measurement of the styloidprocess

Objective:To evaluate the 3D CT reconstruction in measuring the length and angle of the styloid process.Methods:10 cases were selected randomly to perform the 3D reconstruction after CT scanning and then to measure the length of the styloid process and angle between the coronal or sagittal section and the styloid process. Results:The stereoscopic three dimensional images of the styloid process were clearly demonstrated and easily observed in different directions. The average length and angle of the styloid process with the coronal and sagittal section in 10 cases were 26.7mm,18°,19.7°(right side) and 24.7mm,17.2°,20.2°(left side), respectively. Conclusion:The 3D CT reconstruction is a feasible and effective method of measuring the styloid process, but the quality of 3D images depends on rational parameters and correct postures.
