CHOICE SET PROPOSITIONS IN DESTINATION DECISIONS

Abstract Choice sets are a central component of destination selection models. The concept suggests that potential tourists develop an early set of possible destinations, reduce this number to form a late consideration set of probable alternatives, and make a final selection from that set. Research propositions related to these three stages are developed. They are intended to frame the state of existing knowledge and to guide the development of future research. Derivation of the propositions is based on interpretation and transition of findings from the consumer behavior field, as well as from exploratory findings reported in the tourism literature.
