A scaffold immune microenvironment

Local immune cells create conditions that support tissue regeneration [Also see Report by Sadtler et al.] The immune system plays a critical role in wound healing, in both host defense and tissue repair. Strategies that use biologic scaffolds to support tissue reconstruction emphasize this essential contribution of representative immune cells. The findings by Sadtler et al. (1) on page 366 in this issue highlight how the plasticity and diversity of macrophages and lymphocytes support this approach to tissue repair.
