Enhancement of Electric Power System Transient Stability by Changing Network Configuration

Abstract The enhancement of power system transient stability is investigated in this paper, while early papers focus on steady state security. After the idea of transient stability enhancement by changing network configuration is clarified, two screening indices which can be used to select the candidate operations which could enhance transient stability is defined. At last, a heuristic strategy for transient stability enhancement is proposed. Because the screening indices are based on Z-matrix, the proposed method is both simple and practical. The results of two test systems are illustrated to support the proposed idea and the validity ofthe proposed heuristic strategy is verified by a realistic system's implementation.
