Test Development and Technical Information on the Writing Section of the SAT Reasoning Test

The new SAT Reasoning TestTM, first administered in March 2005, was designed to incorporate a number of important changes. Perhaps the most noteworthy change to the test was the addition of a writing section. Writing is a core skill needed for success in both college and the workplace. Table 1 summarizes the content of the SAT® writing section, which includes multiple-choice questions and an essay.
