Petabit-per-Second Routers: Case for All-Optical over Electronic Implementation

This paper investigates merits and challenges of all-optical routers. All-optical routers can exploit the wavelength domain not available in electronic routers to overcome the lack of optical buffers, and to realize compact ultralow power systems.
