LZ-based image compression

Abstract We review some of our recent work on LZ-based, single-pass, adaptive algorithms for the compression of digital images. Our approach combines dictionary techniques from adaptive lossless text compression with quantization techniques to obtain single-pass, highly adaptive compression algorithms that allow the compression-fidelity tradeoff to be continuously adjusted, and lend themselves to high-speed parallel/hardware implementation.
