STBC site diversity for multicarrier CDMA in linear cell system

We focus on the multicarrier CDMA system, which is one of the candidate communication methods for broadband mobile communications, and propose a performance improvement method at the edge of the cells by using a novel site diversity technique. In the site diversity system, plural base stations transmit the same data simultaneously, and these signals are separated and combined at the mobile terminal. This technique can improve the performance of terminals at the cell edge. In the original site diversity technique, the received signals are separated and combined using spreading code characteristics. However, since intercell interference occurs due to the independent spreading code used in each cell, the performance may degrade. In order to solve this problem, space time block code (STBC) site diversity between plural base stations is applied to the multicarrier CDMA system and a scrambling code is assigned to each cell, according to the STBC code patterns, to reduce the influence of the signals from other base stations.
