Lower thermosphere emissions and tides

Abstract From experimental data concerning thermal solar tides, we show that they account for the average diurnal variations of the 557.7 nm atomic oxygen nightglow intensity at 100 km altitude for different latitudes. We point out that this result can be applied to the average diurnal variation of emissions of other constituents such as Na, OH, O2.
