Performance Comparison of On-Demand Routing Protocols for Varying Traffic

Mobile Ad hoc network is an infrastructure-less network comprising of mobile nodes which dynamically form a network without the help of any centralized administration. Since nodes are highly mobile, efficient routing protocols are needed for better performance in such networks. This paper compares the performance of two on-demand routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks – Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) and Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV). The performance differentials are analyzed using varying traffic. The performance is evaluated by using Network Simulator (NS-2.1), from viewpoint of packet delivery fraction and average end- to-end delay.
