Measurement of correlation coefficients of acceleration on a randomly excited structure

Abstract The cross-correlation coefficient of acceleration on a plate and a cylinder has been measured and compared with results expected for a diffuse bending wave field. The object is to try to decide when it is reasonable to assume that a bending wave field is diffuse. The method provides evidence of diffusion in the field under certain conditions, and the cylinder exhibits interesting behaviour. Other methods are currently being used to supplement these results.
