Elimination of beam squint in uniformly excited serially fed antenna arrays using negative group delay circuits

A new design for a serially fed antenna array employing a negative group delay (NGD) circuit is reported in this paper. The NGD is generated within the feed line using an amplifier and a T-junction power divider. Therefore, the positive group delay caused by the interconnecting transmission lines between the adjacent antennas is canceled. This provides a constant phase shift over the entire antenna bandwidth, eliminating beam squint. Phase variation improvement of 83% within a bandwidth of 200 MHz at a center frequency of 10 GHz has been achieved.
