Adaptive subcarrier and bit allocation for multiuser OFDM system based on genetic algorithm

An adaptive subcarrier and bit allocation method based on genetic algorithm for multiuser OFDM system is proposed. With the goal of minimize the overall transmit power while ensuring the fulfillment of each user's rate and bit error rate (BER) requirement, our algorithm acquires the needed allocation through genetic search. We also improve the convergence of the genetic algorithm through the method of adding some individuals with 'good' genes to the initial population. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms static subcarrier allocation schemes TDMA and FDMA considerably in multiuser OFDM system and is better than the algorithm in Zhang (2004).
