Automation of polymer composite manufacturing would allow better control of part quality and consistency, reduce cost, and improve quality of work environment. In this article, automation of the different stages of the manufacturing process, fully automated procedures, and machining of the composites is discussed. The cost and manufacturing capability limitations are the two main obstacles, which limit use of composite parts in consumer products. Expansion of automated composite manufacturing facilities would eliminate these obstacles, allowing large-scale production of high quality products.
