An outbreak of Haemorrhagic Septicaemia in bovines and its management.

An outbreak of Haemorrhagic Septicaemia was investigated in villages of Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh, India with mortality of 17 buffaloes and 1 cattle with high fever, congested conjunctival mucous membrane, salivation, severe respiratory distress and swelling near throat region. Necropsy exhibited congestion, haemorrhages, consolidation of lungs and accumulation of increased amount of straw coloured fluid along with fibrinous exudates in the abdominal and thoracic cavity. Grossly heart exhibited congestion and petechial haemorrhages on epicardium and endocardium. Lymph nodes were enlarged and haemorrhagic. Histopathological changes were in accordance with gross lesions in target organs. Affected animals were successfully managed with Enrofloxacin, Meloxicam and corticosteroid accompanied by mineral mixture as supportive therapy.
