Mililani Town Wastewater

Hawaii is unique among all the states in the character of its community water supplies.1 Its cities, except two major centers of population, are served by groundwater supplies. This ground water is replaced through orographic rainfall percolating into the layers of volcanic rock where it is stored in a Ghyben Herzberg lens for long periods of time. It is withdrawn through the unusual maui shaft-type development or through drilled wells. Development of additional water supply had been scheduled in an orderly manner in accord with population projections, and available ground water has been deemed sufficient until the year 2020.2
