An inter-block 4-erasure-correcting scheme for reliable transmission of large data blocks

CSCW/CSCD involves large amount of collaborative operations among distributed systems, data transmission reliability and integrity is important to ensure the behavioral consistency of various systems. Since it concerns with large data blocks and real time requirements in application layer, the general data reliability ensuring technology, such as RS codes, which is designed originally for bit or symbol oriented transmission, it is not suitable because of high computation cost. This paper presents a fast 4-erasure-correcting scheme that can be used for tolerating up to 4 simultaneous block failures (or lost) with only 4 additional redundant blocks. The proposed codes are systematic MDS codes which features an optimal correction capability and can be implemented by software in real-time mode since its lower encoding /decoding complexities. It is shown that the codes are efficient for large data blocks and can encode with at most 27 continuous data blocks. The codes can be an efficient scheme to improve reliability of data transmission for applications based on application layer in cooperative computing environment.
