Hydrogen in palladium and palladium alloys

Abstract Over more than the past four decades, Ewald Wicke has been both a direct and indirect dominant personality within the overall area of research of hydrogen in metals, including in particular the fields of study involved with hydrogen in palladium and palladium alloys. Professor Wicke's influence stemmed in particular from extensive contributions, together with his group, to the central research areas of phase relationships and hydrogen isotope diffusion. Also very important have been his editorial influences in regard to conference arrangements and publications of proceedings. The present article is a revision of a contribution to a group of articles prepared for presentation to Professor Wicke in Munster in October 1994 on the occasion of his eightieth birthday.
