Impact force location in frame structures

This paper describes a method to determine the location of an impact force using dynamic response measurements. The solution procedure combines frequency-domain problem solving methods using the spectral element method with a stochastic iterative search technique based on a genetic algorithm. Experimentally measured acceleration responses from two frame structures are used to verify the method.
