Zerotree Coding Algorithm for Color Images based on Integer Lifting Wavelet Transform

A listless SPIHT coding algorithm based on the integer lifting wavelet transform with lower memory requirement and higher compression performance for color image compression is presented. This new algorithm employs linear index scanning order giving lower frequency subbands higher priority, as well as listless significance map coding algorithm. The proposed algorithm also uses new state-bit-tables and zerotree partitioning strategy different from Wen-Kuo Lin et al.抯 LZC. Comparison reveals that the proposed algorithm can provide approximately 0.5dB higher PSNR results than those of LZC, and the compression ratio is better than SPIHT. Furthermore, it is beneficial to hardware implementation.
