The main bridge of Baling River Bridge is a steel truss girder suspension bridge with a main span 1 088 m.The steel truss girder of the bridge is 28 m wide and 10 m high and the bridge is located over a valley that is about 2 000 m wide. From the deck of the bridge to the bottom of the valley, the height of the bridge is about 370 m and the land forms at both banks are steep. In the light of the characteristic that the erection of the steel truss girder under the conditions as mentioned is difficult, the construction methods of the cable-supported crane, deck crane and cable crane are studied and the applicability, economy, safety and construction time schedules of the methods are comprehensively compared. The results of the study and compression demonstrate that the lifting and installation speed of the 3 kinds of the construction methods can all satisfy the construction time schedule requirement, however, the method of the cable crane requires occupation of large land for the assembling yard. The cable-supported crane requires retrofitting of the common cable-supported crane. The method of the deck crane can well tackle the problems of the construction site and transportation and the input of the construction equipment is economic. In such case, the construction of the deck crane was finally selected for the bridge and with the method, the erection of the bridge was completed rapidly and highly efficiently and the closure of the steel truss girder was realized also with high precision.
