A CASE ANALYSIS ON THE MICRO-AGGLOMERATION OF FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS IN GUANGZHOU

The case studies on the micro-agglomeration of financial institutions in certain city are scarce in China.Based on the second-hand data from 'the tertiary industry census'(1984),'the basic units census'(1996,2001) and other social-economic statistics,this paper discerned four comparatively agglomerative spots of financial institutions in Guangzhou.And then the situation of financial services at Tianhebei spot,one of the agglomerative spots,was described briefly.Through interviewing with the managers of financial services and their auxiliary industries using semi-open questionnaire,some characteristics of financial institution micro-agglomeration model belonging to the linear enhancing type at Tianhebei spot were summarized as follows: ①The locations of financial institutions were not connected compactly as a area sector.②The monopolistic structure both of financial demand and supply markets could not be found yet.③The agglomerative level of financial institutions was relatively low.④A interlocking between the institutions of financial services and their auxiliary industries enhanced the agglomeration of financial institutions.⑤The public services ought to be supplied by government department and industrial public organizations were not adequate to promote the clustering of financial services.This paper also indicated some aspects worth of taking as suggestion for Guangzhou 21th Century CBD development.
