Evaluation of Radiated Emission from Mains Cable with the Different Terminating Conditions and Disturbance Sources

In this paper, simulation analysis was performed using different terminating conditions to evaluate mains cable radiated emissions based on disturbance sources within equipment. For verifying validity of the simulation, the measurement with a comb generator was performed with injecting common-mode and differential-mode signals into two types of the mains cable under both balanced and unbalanced termination conditions. The validity of simulation has been confirmed, after the difference of data with the calculation and measurement was compared. Based on the both results, we confirmed the radiated emission from mains cable induced by a common mode source is bigger than the emission induced by a differential mode source. Therefore, we concluded the maximum emission is able to measure with the balanced termination, because common mode disturbances are dominant to the electric and electronics equipment. If main-cable-borne differential-mode components are dominant, unbalanced termination is recommended. However, further consideration needs to be given to the test procedure in the case of unbalanced termination of the mains cable.
