The curving performance of EMS-type urban Maglev vehicles using a U-shaped electromagnet must be investigated, because a guideway may have some curves with shorter radii than conventional wheel-on-rail guideway. In addition, although the levitation force is actively controlled by changing the voltage of the electromagnets, guidance force is passively determined by the levitation force. It is, therefore, necessary to optimize guideway cant, considering dynamic behavior of Maglev vehicle, guidance and centrifugal forces and ride quality during curving of the curve guideway. Also, the speed limit for Maglev vehicle during curving are reviewed by cases of the superelevation and curve radius of guideway.
