Abstract In recent years there has been an increasing use of supplementary signals in generator excitation control systems to improve generator and power system stability and to extend the under-excited capability of generators. This paper reports the investigation, development and testing of a power signal stabiliser recently fitted to 500 MW turbo-generators at the Liddell Power Station in New South Wales.
