The horizontal spread of intracortical inhibition in the visual cortex

Biseoe and Curtis (1967) and Curtis and Felix (1971) reported tha t in the cat 's motor cortex inh ib i tory effects could be observed at some distance from the site where exci tant amino acids were injected. They in terpre ted these findings as being caused by exci tat ion of inh ib i tory interneurones. Recent ly Renaud and Kel ly (1974) reported similar observat ions using the same technique in the pericruciate cortex.
